Every few seconds the whistling stopped, and a soft voice called out in a soft, sing-song voice.
It took Kre several repeats before he could make out enough of the words to string them together. “Day-seeeee… no fair hiding… I’ll fiiiiind you… ”
The voice was especially eerie, almost childish yet still sinister in a darkly mocking sort of way. It wasn’t a voice that Kre recognized, and he was partially thankful for that. Such a voice was the kind that would give you nightmares about clowns and jesters and make you afraid of them for life.
Kre reached up to tap Kit on the shoulder, in hopes that she might have some sort of answer for who it was that seemed to be chasing them, but he paused, arm halfway out, when he felt a sudden shift in the ground around him.
It started off small, almost like a slight slip in wet grass. He stayed paused for a moment, hoping that the sudden rise of uneasiness in the pit of his stomach would settle with the ground around him. Just when he thought things were calm again, Kitalia took a step backwards, forcing him back lest they occupy the same space.
The moment that he moved back, it felt as if the earth swallowed him up. The ground was suddenly open all around him and he felt himself suspended for a fraction of a second before that feeling was replaced by a sudden slam against the dirt, now about six feet under him. He was sliding backwards in a world of darkness, his hands unable to grab onto anything solid. He couldn’t even manage to scream out as all of the air seemed to have vanished from around him.
When you fall in complete darkness, into a world suddenly devoid of sound and any sense of orientation, time is only measured by the heartbeats thundering in your ears.
BA-DUMP
Bits of dirt made their way into his mouth and he struggled to spit it out. It was made more difficult because of the sudden shock of just how cold the earth seemed to be, almost like a mouthful of snow.
BA-DUMP
Closing his eyes only seemed to bring about a moderate case of vertigo. So, despite the fact that he could see nothing, he kept his eyes partially open.
BA-DUMP
He felt his body roll over from back to front, but it gave no sensation of which way might be up or down. It was a surreal feeling and it was one that his stomach wanted no part of.
BA-DUMP
Kre thrust his arms out again, hoping to catch something that might slow his fall. His fingers could feel something out there, but whenever he closed his hand on something it seems to dissipate. It was like trying to catch a ripple in the water.
BA-DUMP
A deep breath, in an attempt to calm himself.
BA-DUMP
He felt his body spin around in a flat spin. Thankfully, it didn’t appear that he was on a rough surface, so it didn’t seem to cause him any harm to spin around, nor did it bring about a bout of dizziness.
BA-DUMP
While it seemed that the spinning stopped, there was no way to tell which direction his body was facing now.
BA-DUMP
He felt weightless again. Weightless and cold.
BA-DUMP
“Kre… you alive?” The voice came from everywhere and nowhere all at once, but at least it was a voice that he recognized.
