A flash of seething anger seemed to boil over in Kre’s head, overpowering any of the thoughts he might have otherwise had. The emotion was raw, and almost painful with its intensity, but Kre had no idea why he suddenly felt the way he did.
The landscape flickered around him, interspersing the scenes of the serene, icy waters with an empty void of nothingness.
Bel’s voice seemed to tickle at the back of his mind, but so lost he was in blinding anger that he couldn’t make out any of the words she was trying to say.
His hands flew to the sides of his head, as if he could contain the fury by pressing hard against his skull. Aside from a slight lessening of the buzzing sound in his ears, the action didn’t seem to do much to temper his emotion.
What was most frustrating, however, is that he had no idea where to direct this newfound anger. All he knew was that he was exceptionally, unapologetically, devastatingly mad.
A light touch landed on his shoulder, both startling him and enraging him even further. It incensed him that anyone would dare approach him while he felt this way, but there was also a small glimmer of satisfaction that he would soon have an outlet towards which to let loose his stored-up vitriol.
He spun around, flinging his arm wide as he did so, hoping to catch the brazen meddler by surprise before he lay into them for the interruption.
Upon completing most of his rotation, he soon realized that something was terribly amiss. There was no outstretched arm tapping him on the shoulder and there was nobody standing there behind him. Instead, there appeared to be a gloriously intense aura of light and fire filling his entire view.
Kre wasn’t sure when it happened, but he found himself on his knees, one arm thrown against his eyes to shield them from the searing brightness that seemed to emanate from the world around him. Despite the expectation that he should be very nearly aflame due to his proximity to the inferno, he felt chills race up and down his entire body, making it seem as if he were convulsing with the shivers.
Even with his arm pressed tightly against his eyes, the flames seemed to be dancing in his eyes. Whatever anger he once felt had long since melted away, leaving only a sense of awe oddly mixed with a deep feeling of inadequacy.
“Reveal thyself”
It was clear from the tone that it was not a request but rather a command that must immediately be obeyed.
Kre slowly shifted his arm down from his eyes, believing that the directive was calling for him to do so. Though his entire vision was filled with light, he felt no pain from it. He blinked a few times to try and clear away the tears that had somehow emerged without his knowing.
The entire world seemed to rumble again, and the flames flashed with vividly colorful lights.
